Students of the 2nd and 3rd grade of the Marine-engineering programme at the Technical School in Šibenik, accompanied by their teachers, visited Brodotrogir in order to get better acquainted with their chosen profession, as well as with work procedures and production in the shipbuilding industry.
The shipbuilding industry isn’t developed in Šibenik and its surrounding area and most of the students saw the shipyard and large ships for the first time. Therefore the teachers of this School already brought generations of students to our Shipyard in order to familiarise them with the process, equipment and technologies of the shipbuilding industry because, as said by Mr. Torić, a teacher who decades ago initiated the School's cooperation with our Shipyard, it is necessary to give children direction and provide them with at least basic practical knowledge in order for them to get a timely view of their future jobs.
Students observed production processes with great care and attention, from sheet metal cutting, their joining in sections, to the powerhouse which is still under construction on NB 339. They also visited the docks and familiarised themselves with the overhaul of the Kijac tanker which is currently located in large Dock 15. One of the students said that he was impressed by what he saw because he never got the opportunity to see such gigantic ships before, and cannot wait to finish school and start working in the profession.
