Two-day seminar thematically dedicated to relations of unions and workers' councils with the media and internal communication, organized by Croatian Metalworkers' Trade Union in cooperation with FES (Friedrich Ebert Etiftung), was held in hotel Astoria in Seget Vranjica on November 12 and 13, 2008.
The purpose of the seminar and its workshops was to familiarize union members, workers' councils and employees on media functioning and media strategies, manner of placement of information into the media, information selection, what makes the news and which criteria need to be observed when publishing news, i.e. what unions and workers' councils can achieve with the help of the media.
Journalist Dijana Pirjevac-Ramesa and regional commissioner of the Association of Independent Trade Unions of Croatia (SSSH) Jadranka Tomasic were seminar lecturers.
In the final portion of the seminar, participants were given an opportunity to simulate the entire situation of possible relationship and response to inquiries between journalists and union representatives in a concrete task laid out in the framework of one of the workshops.
The seminar, which was above all marked by witty and constructive atmosphere, gathered 25 representatives from the metallurgical industry unions from entire Dalmatia, from Zadar to Dubrovnik.
